Palm Pilot Upgrades

"PalmPilot owners! Are you satisfied with the memory or CPU speed in your PDA? In today's complex world with hundreds of new applications coming out each week, you might like to have more memory for program storage in your PalmPilot.

Some time ago when PalmIII™ was a top of the line model, I started to run out of memory as quickly as I became dependent on the convenience of my new handheld computer. My Electrical Engineering background gave me the challenge and the opportunity to research the issue and to come up with an easy and inexpensive solution: the 8 Mb memory upgrade! My friends and their friends promptly lined up for the service. A web site followed and the rest was history....

When I started my business 3 years ago I quickly learned that there are two most important issues for my clients. The first is a successful upgrade without changing the unit's appearance. I can relate to that, so I make sure every Palm looks exactly like it did before the upgrade. I also developed a special test program insuring worry-free results. The 48-hour test became my trademark and I guarantee that not one unit escapes it. The second issue of importance is a quick turnaround time without wasting a single day. I make a special point not to keep my clients waiting for their little helpers."

I wish I had known about this when I first got my Clie, because it would have been the first thing I would have done with it. This would cost me $109 (plus return shipping), but it's probably worth it for power users. It costs even less for older Palms, so it's a viable option for folks that are perfectly happy with the PDA they bought a year or two ago but who would like more memory.

Rudenko can upgrade most Palms and even some PocketPCs.

Dean gave me a copy of the following, although he didn't note where he got it (one of yesterday's newspapers?):

"Starting this month, four major credit card bureaus in the United States will be allowed to release credit information, mailing addresses, phone numbers and other information to anyone who requests it, according to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs.

If you do not want to be included in this release of your personal information, you can call (888) 567-8688. Once the message starts, you will want option 2, then option 3. Be sure to listen closely; the first option is only for a two-year period. Wait for the third option, which opts you out forever.

You should receive paperwork in the mail confirming your instructions less than one week after making the call."

Addendum: Dale Pike points to a press release noting that the above is only partially accurate. You can indeed call the above telephone number, but it will only prevent you from receiving pre-approved offers of credit. Make sure you visit the link to read the details.

Of course, now I'm going to try and find out where Dean saw this, write to the paper, and watch for a clarification. At least I can correct my blog in real time!

Most Unlikely Muse: The Register of Copyright

"Lisa Rein has written a song about James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress and Marybeth Peters, the Register of Copyright, about the CARP proceedings, the First Amendment and the future of webcasting. Download the MP3 and put it on your favorite file-sharing network tonight!

I'm so bored when I listen to my radio
I'm so tired when I'm watching my tv
I'm so sad when I think about the future of my country
James and Marybeth, can you find a place for me?

I know it's hard to do your job and make things work and
I know it's riskier to try new things
but I'm so scared of a world where I must ask to ask a question.
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?" [Boing Boing Blog]

Worst Halloween Costumes Ever

"Index of /costumes

Stunning. Appreciate Shaun Cassidy, Rubik's Cube, and Mr. Kotter." [Kung Fu Grippe]

The sad thing is that I remember most of these! I loved The Electric Company, but can you imagine the flap there would be over a Village People costume these days?

One of my great regrets is that my kids won't have the experience of dressing up in these poncho costumes (at night!) and donning the masks that prevented breathing. A rite of passage that, sadly, no longer exists. *sigh*

Atlas Says "Goodbye World, Hello Tequila!"

"Today I'm accepting something important.

I cannot cope.

I am now subscribed to 37 news sources.  I add about one new source a week.  Each of these is easily capable of delivering at least one or two items each day that are really interesting to me.  That I want to talk about.  But I cannot absorb this quanitity of new information even on a good day.  There is no time to reflect, to mull, to doze on it.

So I have resolved that I don't care.

I won't cope.

I'll let good stuff go by the wayside.

Other people will find it.

Google will keep track of it.

It's all their when the time comes.

I'm not Atlas to the internet.

Even to my own small chunk of it.

There.

I feel better now." [Curiouser and curiouser!]

This is a difficult thing to accept, especially when you have an aggregator that pulls everything in for you. I hit this stage a few months ago, but it's especially daunting when you go out of town (or injure your back!).

And that's what it is - a stage. I think there are stages to blogging. Excitement, Fun, Overwhelmed, Panicked, Acceptance, and then the cycle starts anew. Are there "12 steps of blogging?"
