fbW Summary
One of the nice things about working at a startup
is that you get to write a lot of new code.
One of the less nice things about it is doing that
all weekend, too often.
It's been fun to write a whole compiler from scratch,
even participating in a lot of the language design.
It's been fun to write all the code in Ruby.
I still like Python better, but now I can say I
know Ruby well.
Yesterday the VP of Engineering was replaced.
The new one mentioned making progress/status stuff
more prominent ("who's working on what"), and even
mentioned wikis explicitly. That could be cool.
Deb's folks got in a car crash, so she and her
siblings have each been making weekend visits up
to Grass Valley.
I spent part of Saturday digging a ditch.
It's up at the end of the driveway right in
front of the cement pad of what used to be the
garage, so the dirt was hard enough that I had
to soften it up with a pick. Weird angle, because
it's almost under our newish bay window there.
Anyway, my back was sore Sunday and part of
Monday, but it's better now. Deb planted flowers
into the ditch on Sunday, and it all brings the
look of the front of the house together much
better -- now the ex-garage looks like part of
the house, instead of like a garage.
I finished reading Quicksilver, and nowhere in it
did I notice that (among other things) the title
is one of Jack's nicknames. Now I'm well into
the second one, The Confusion. My favorite quote
so far was in reference to King Charles II's dogs:
"... inbred even by royal standards, and therefore
demented even by spaniel standards".
I bought a CD/DVD writer yesterday, since my
old one was appaarently broken. They (Fry's) had
a K.C. Spaniels calendar there, so I had to pick
that up, too.
Man, at this rate I'll end up with no more than
twelve weblog entries this year.
