For no good reason, I had been posting one self-referential
limerick per day to the bozos list, proving beyond doubt that it
was indeed time for a vacation. You'll be pleased to know that I
have cured myself of that affliction. You'll be less pleased to
read my trip report:
A trip to Lake Tahoe we made;
We set up our tent in the shade.
Decided to make
Camp near Fallen Leaf Lake --
A week in the woods there we stayed.
We rode to the Power Line spires,
Off Pioneer Trail, near Myers,
But the ride in the sun
Was too hot to be fun,
Heat stroke threatened to make me expire.
The Tahoe Rim Trail, some rode
From Kingsbury Grade west toward Toad's;
A death march up stairs,
Four flats spent their spares.
'Twas past dark when they laid down their loads.
A better Rim Trail stretch I seek:
Tahoe Meadows, the flume, Marlette Peak.
East and west, views expand,
Despite riding some sand,
World-class views make this trail unique.
The views of Lake Tahoe, Jade Beach,
And, east, Carson Valley you'd reach.
The flowers up high:
Colors treated the eye --
Marlette Lake's osprey soared over each.
A sandy trail dropped us all down
To a theme park -- a western-ish town.
An old TV show,
People just won't let go,
Bizarre but amusing, we found.
Near camp, in our small rubber boat,
On our little lake we would just float,
Mark's kayaks of wood
Look outstandingly good.
We paddled and rested, and wrote.
A triple-treat light show -- the Fourth!
Fireworks to the south, east, and north;
Lightning over the hills,
Full moon, thunder, and chills,
And great food -- got our money's worth!
The Echo Lake boat ride, we three
Climb towards Lake Aloha and see
Naught but granite and trees,
And enough of a breeze,
To keep the mosquitoes from me.
I left them, a photo in mind:
Fallen Leaf with Lake Tahoe behind.
The shot came out well,
But my knees felt the hell
Of the steep hill down to Glen Alpine.
Tequila was Thursday night's drink
A pack got left out and we blinked.
A bear smelled the food.
We hollered and shoo'd.
It got some Beef Jerkey, we think.
On Monday, the quiet returned.
We read, rested, packed up and burned
The remains of the trash,
Bought some food with some cash,
And drove home, mulling all that we'd learned.
See ya next time!
