The National Intelligence Model - £1.01m

National Criminal Intelligence Service

The National Intelligence Model promotes effective intelligence-led policing on a national level, through a programme to standardise intelligence-related structures, processes and practices across all forces. It aims to improve the use and flow of intelligence between the local, cross-border and international levels. An important part of the project is its emphasis on integrating intelligence responsibilities throughout a force.

This project is piloting the roll-out of the model with three forces. The lessons learnt will help inform the subsequent roll-out to other forces.

I have been reading Bernard Lewis' "What Went Wrong: The Clash Between Islam and Modernity in the Middle East" in an attempt to understand the background to Arab anti-Americansim. In the conclusion on page 153 I find that after the colonal French and British powers left, "inevitably their role of villains was taken over by the United States, along with other aspects of the leadership of the West".

Why "inevitably"? I'm just as bemused as ever. Fine book though. It is rare to read someone who can empathise so deeply with a people or cause without necessarily sympathising.
