Getting at recently updated weblogs in my neighborhood looks doable, but will take a little time for me - and I need to be leaving about now. Here is what I have found so far:
Doh! I just noticed the favorites page only displays blogs updated in the last 24 hours. Well, that may be OK. |

The weblog neighborhood thing is really fun. I spent some more time combing through sites showing up in my neighborhood. Mostly sites I did not already know about. It was kind of fun just clicking on sites and seeing what people were talking about and where our interests overlapped. Some sites were active, others less so. Clicking around gave me an idea. What if I could combine my neighborhood with weblogs.com - getting just a list of recently updated weblogs on my neighborhood? For Radio users it should be as simple as taking the list from the neighborhood and creating a list of favorites to display on Weblogs.com On The Desktop. |

I think Ernie has gone beyond the neighborhood stage to something more like a sprawling urban center. I wonder if we aren't going to see a whole new class of jobs created here (the new economy?) in which specialized webloggers aggregate feeds in specific interest areas, filtering and publishing the best stuff for people like me. The only thing is, I am not sure that I would be willing to pay for this service. 11:31:50 AM |

Buzz Bruggeman is in the Chicago area this week. I know he is meeting with some area bloggers - Jenny, Rick Klau, myself. Buzz and I are getting together tomorrow afternoon to talk about ActiveWords - a great little tool he developed that I learned about via Ernie. I want to put the tool to better use and, if it makes sense, to encourage its use within our company. 11:25:15 AM |

I find that a lot of the sites in my neighborhood are interesting. Many of them I used to read frequently, but then it became an overwhelming task. Now I generally rely on others (e.g. Scripting News) to aggregate these and then refer me to articles that might interest me. I do not have time to aggregate everything I would like to. It is easier to stand on the shoulders of giants who already do a great job of aggregating. Jenny is a great aggregator, but she posts far more than I can keep up with in a typical day. I rely on Ernie and others, who frequently read Jenny and seem to share interests in common with me, to filter out what I need to know from Jenny. I suppose that means I am generally getting second-hand news. Then again, I hold to the philosophy that anything I really need to know will eventually find its way to me. |

Wow, I have a neighborhood! A bunch of new places for me to look into. 11:04:32 AM |

I am upgrading my site today. Converting to the new blogroll macro and working up to a neighborhood! 10:45:35 AM |
