The Downside to Corporate IT's Pursuit of Consulting Model. [Note: excerpt from an email sent to a former manager] What a strange time this is at [my BigCo]. I cannot describe what a cold, lonely feeling it has been for us out in South Barrington. One day we were working on a project and shortly thereafter we were all pretty much on our own looking for work. The Posting system is not working as well as one would like. It is common practice to wait until a person is lined up for a position before filing a posting for the position. That means we have to work our contacts to find project work; not a viable prospect for someone fairly new to the company. Making matters worse is the uncertainty in our environment. We have always carried our developers through difficult periods in the past, finding work for them to do. With our new consulting model and this find-work-for-yourself attitude we find ourselves with skilled, knowledgeable employees facing the very real prospect of receiving a 60 day notice simply because nobody has to pick them up. Ouch! I sure miss having an Employee Advocate.
