Starbuck's Dinner. Dan and Sandra are hosting a dinner tomorrow night for a group of morning regulars at Starbucks. My wife is a little anxious about going as she is not one of the morning regulars. I am looking forward to it, some interesting people will be there. Dan and Sandra are a young couple (maybe 30 years old) with two young children. Dan has his own business. I think he sells blocks of cellular network time for prepaid phone cards (or something like that). Jack and his wife Lynn (also not a regular) will be there. I learned this morning that Jack graduated from West Point with Colin Powell, amongst other household names. I'll bet he has some great stories to tell. Two other couples will be there, both of whom contribute only a single spouse to Starbucks. I think one is in construction and another is in real estate. There is, I suspect, another thread running through all of our lives. If nothing else, this thread may provide for some interesting exploration tomorrow. One of Jack's West Point buddies has invited him to the Cubs game tonight. We can always talk about that.

Cubs Ticket Drawing. Two lucky employees will win two tickets each to tomorrow's NLDS game pitting the Chicago Cubs against the Atlanta Braves. To enter we had to respond to an email sent out to all Home Office employees this morning. I wonder what my odds are? Let's see, there are about 10,000 employees considered to be part of the extended home office across Chicago's northwest 'burbs. Some, of course, will be on vacation today. Quite a few will, I'm sure, fail to read through their email before the noon deadline. Others will lose the announcement in the spam. There are a large number who probably just don't care. I figure I have at least a 2 in 5000 chance. My colleagues think it might be 2 in 1000. But then, they all entered - so what does that tell me? The winners will be announced at 2:00 pm CDT.

It is our anniversary today. Twenty-two years ago today I married Deborah Ann Guhl, making a comittment for life that I strive to honor each and every day. I suppose that sounds less than romantic. I can only say "don't be fooled". Tonight is homecoming at Fremd High School. My daughter is performing with Orchesis (dance group) at half time; there will be no romantic date tonight. I had planned to take my wife out for dinner at Mon Ami Gabi tomorrow night, but my friends Dan and Sandra are hosting a dinner party for the morning regulars from Starbucks. This should be a great time, but it means I will have to wait a week to celebrate our anniversary.
