Presidential Issues. I do at least know the issues I really care about. The issues I think the next administration must address are: a Federal marriage ammendment, protecting the rights of unborn children, reigning in judicial law-making (as currently practiced in our Federal and Supreme courts). Interestingly, all of these are addressed in each party's platform.

Whom to Believe. There is so much shouting. "Bush bungled the Iraq invasion", "Kerry waffles on divisive issues", "Bush is the most dangerous president in my lifetime", "Kerry's claims to being a war hero are overstated". These are all character attacks. In fact, most of what I'm reading lately seems to be attacks on a candidate's character. A President's character is extremely important so we should endeavor to understand a candidate's character. It seems, however, that we have no shortage of people willing to point out character flaws, real or hoped for, in our candidates. It has gotten to the point where I do not know whom to believe or even what to make of this mess. How can we assess a candidate's character for ourselves? How can we determine if a candidate is: honest, trustworthy, loyal, consistent, compassionate, encouraging? It certainly isn't by listening to those who are opposed to each candidate, those armed with hot rhetoric and questionable "facts".
