Does Publicly Funded Research Have to Result in Open Source Code?
The Bayh-Dole Act paved the way for the privatization of publicly funded resources, but not everyone is happy with the results.
Discussion at Slashdot.
Pentagon eyes cuts in air patrols over U.S.
Military officials said they believe it is not realistic to keep planes in the air all the time.
I've never liked having fighter jets flying around American cities with authorization to shoot down commercial planes. It doesn't make me feel any safer (although I will concede that many people seem to feel differently).
Apparently some Pentagon officials are concerned that the patrols are draining the resources of the Air Force without providing much more than a last resort defense against terrorist attacks.
Browsing the news through an RSS feed is like drinking water from a fire hydrant (to use the really obvious metaphor/simile). My brain doesn't know how to filter the information yet.
I can set up the RSS feed in an attempt to mimic what I do while browsing. Of course, this requires that I understand what I'm doing while browsing!
Cool! Next I'm going to try posting something from the "News aggregator"...
This seems easy enough. Type some text into a box, then click "Post to Weblog". Let's see if it works how I think it does...
