This Steer's Life

Michael Pollan
If I was going to continue to eat red meat, then I owed it to myself, as well as to the animals, to take more responsibility for the invisible but crucial transaction between ourselves and the animals we eat. I'd try to own it, in other words. So this is the biography of my cow.

Copyright holders turn to technology

Patrick Thibodeau
"I think it's a very, very badly conceived idea", said David J. Farber, a professor of telecommunications systems at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and a former chief technologist at the FCC. "The result of it would be to essentially emasculate the PC as a useful device."

Q: Do you see any threats to your vision of Wi-Fi creating a "cauldron of innovation", as you put it?

Stock Options: Now You Care?

Bill Mann
Options are abused now because the cost of them appears to be zero. Pay your executives, pay 'em really, really well. But pay 'em in cash and let them buy stock on the open market.

Instant Outlining, Instant Gratification

Jon Udell
It's been clear to me for a long while that the only thing that might displace email would be some kind of persistent IM. That's exactly what instant outlining is. If it catches on, and it's buzz-worthy enough to do that, we'll have a framework within which to innovate in ways that email never allowed.
Dave Winer
I believe Instant Outlining is to Instant Messaging as the spreadsheet is to a desktop calculator. A calculator can edit one number, a spreadsheet can express relationships between numbers. An Instant Messaging client can transmit a single idea, an Instant Outlining client can express relationships between ideas.
