«A staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Urban was in downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square covering the 2001
Mardi Gras celebration, which had erupted into rioting that would leave one man dead. From his perch on a fire escape, he saw a group of young men start up the typical Mardi Gras chant demanding that a woman bare her breasts. She refused and they attacked.»

«A very long time exposure through a neutral density filter, multiply illuminated by a handheld flash. I was dressed in black, I covered my face and hands with a blackcloth so I reflected as little light as possible. Then I ran into the scene carrying a big Honeywell StrobeLite and flashed the spots I wanted to light up. I hid inside the arch and lit the hall from behind, then I ran back out and faintly lit up the arch. So while this photograph seems dark and empty, to me it represents about 5 minutes of frantic activity rushing around in the darkness with a blinding strobe light. As I was scanning this image, I found a faint ghostly grey smear in the left half of the image. I couldn't figure out what it was, then I realized it was
me. . . .»
