Visual SourceSafe

I am so fed up with Visual SourceSafe that I tried to install CVS over the weekend.  I got it working by and large but talk about a painful process.

Once it was working the concepts were foreign to me as a user of VSS and before that slm.

Are there any good SCC products out there that  I don't have to indenture my first born to use?  I know Rational has one but last I looked it is out of my price range.

Suggestions?
