Finally starting to see the attraction behind Instant Outlining. I'm not particularly fond of the term "outlining," mainly because I don't think it accurately describes what's going on. I've always felt that an outline is more of an empty shell, the foundation you pour before beginning construction. It's condensed. It's not the whole thing. Perhaps this is yet another case where technical folk feel strongly about a particular word (because of their extensive experience with it), but Joe User feels differently.
In any event, what I'm putting together here is (at least in my definition), most certainly not an "outline." This is very real content. And, if I'm able to share this with my peers, the value extends far beyond a mere outline. Where I see the benefit is as a kind of persistent IM client. Still, obviously, in it's infancy. But a strong effort that addresses (in one fell swoop) limitations and benefits of both e-mail and instant messaging.
Great, great idea. Lousy name.
After a long Easter weekend in Duluth, I managed to come down with some kind of crud. Feeling better, now, and I've been able to kill a couple of birds with a single stone. DSL problems are gone, and all of the blogging that's been on my laptop is now on my server PC at home. We'll give this setup a tryout.
