Quick update on several Promises, Promises that had been made to a particular client by a particular vendor: the attempt to use the vendor tool continues, much to my surprise. Looks like sometimes an unkept promise is better than accepting a solution that you didn't want brought in in the first place.

Good morning, finally. Little after 7:00, and I've made a run to the bagel store, the convenient drive-through Starbucks. Ironed some pants and shirts. Got the girls up at 7:00, and now we're all getting set up to watch SpongeBob. Overall, a pretty decent way to start the morning.

Update: it occured to me, later today, that this wasn't actually how I "started" the morning. Figure of speech, I suppose.

Up way too early this morning (3:30). Woke up for some reason, and haven't been able to fall back asleep. So I hopped online. Updated the walleye story (below), then ran across this article from the local paper: Prosecutor describes Lakeville 4-year-old's final night.

[Dillon's] body was found last September covered with bruises and bite marks in the Lakeville apartment that he, his 5-year-old sister and his mother shared with McBride, who had been his mother's boyfriend for six months.

Yeesh. And: Dillon's sister also is expected to testify. A transcript of her interview with Lakeville police has been admitted as evidence. In the interview, done hours after her brother was found dead, the girl pointed to her wrist and said Dillon had showed her marks on his wrists that his autopsy later found to be consistent with cigarette burns.

These kinds of stories make me alternately 1) angry, 2) sick, and 3) sad. Time to go hug the girls, and be thankful for so many small, simple things.
