Happy Birthday, Dad! Sixty years young today. Wow. What continues to help define "cool" (at least for me) as my parents continue to grow older, is the fact that dad is pretty unfazed by his move into the sixties because he's so busy preparing to join the Peace Corps this June with my stepmom. Now that's the way to start your retirement! Two years in Belize.

Keep it a secret, at least until tomorrow morning: I'm quitting. There are many many reasons to leave a consulting company I've been with for five out of it's six years in existence. I'll probably post a few more reasons here, later, as I figure out the best way to enjoy my surprise morning meeting with my boss.

Perhaps this e-mail from said boss is the easiest way to explain why I feel that my company isn't "about people" anymore. This came a couple of months ago, in honor of my fifth anniversary at the company (I was employee twelve or thirteen or something). Seriously. Not only is this the exact e-mail, this was also the only recognition I received.

Robert my records indicate that today is your anniversary. Congratulations you have hit a milestone and also more vacation days.

Absolutely amazing day. It has been snowing non-stop since we woke up this morning. Buds on the trees have been covered by thick, wet snow. Wish I had a digital camera to snap a shot of the winter wonderland outside our window, but perhaps an image from a traffic camera will suffice.

Hmmm.

Mark implements an auto-linkback feature, and does a small compare/contrast with Radio's Instant Outliner.

IO is more controlled -- you have to subscribe to other people's feeds to read their responses -- and is therefore better suited for intentional collaboration. Auto-linkbacks are more about exploration and manufacturing serendipity.

Hmmm.

From this morning's paper, an article about a local couple who bought a boat and snowmobile dealer a couple of years ago, weathering both recession and the effects of 9/11 on the economy to grow the business by 25% in 2000, and another 32% in 2001.

Great example of how you don't blame "the economy" for a flat revenue trend, or September 11th for a bad fourth quarter. What you do is have "a sound business plan -- and the guts to stick with it."

Bah. What I meant to say was I love the change of seasons when they actually change. Woke up this morning with snow on the ground. Vacation next Saturday is looking better and better.
