Heh. Continuing the all things Star Wars theme, Jonathon V. Last puts forth a pretty compelling argument for the rule of Palpatine and his empire. To wit: 1) the Republic -- particularly the ruling Senate -- is cumbersome and ineffective; 2) the Empire isn't about wanton destruction and chaos -- it's goals are exactly the opposite, to create order out of the chaotic Republic; and 3) post-Rebellion, there are no plans for a new government, or a better way to manage the unwieldy Senate, only "the Empire is bad." All of this "makes the rebels--Lucas's heroes--an unimpressive crew of anarchic royals who wreck the galaxy so that Princess Leia can have her tiara back."
