Taking Esmé to see Star Wars this afternoon. Full report to follow.Updated: well, it didn't get any better. We were all mostly entertained, though if Esmé's fidgeting through the first two-thirds was any indication, she was as bored as the rest of us leading up the Battle Royale. They shoulda dropped some cages around the arena for a bit more verisimilitude. Heh. It also occurred to me that Anakin could have prevented the rise of Luke Skywalker. Here's the deal: when Anakin and Amadidala return to Tatooine, C3P0 is working at the moisture farm that would eventually belong to Uncle Owen. For unknown reasons, C3PO joins Anakin, Padmé, and R2D2 when they leave the planet. Perhaps Anakin was simply reclaiming what was rightfully his. I dunno, but it's never explained. Anyway. Follow my logic. At the beginning of Star Wars, Uncle Owen is looking to purchase a protocol droid. Exactly the kind of droid that young Anakin took away what, twenty or twenty five years earlier? If he'd just let C3PO stay on the planet, working dilligently at the moisture farm, Owen never would've needed to buy another droid, Luke never would have discovered the plans hidden within R2D2, and the Death Star never would've been destroyed by a lucky shot. Ah, the subtle twists of fate.
