In for a quick visit before they take off for two years with the Peace Corps. They flew in from Seattle after moving a bunch of their belongings from Columbus, OH to Portland, OR. While in Seattle, they picked up a few things that haven't yet made their way to the Midwest, and that more than make up for the stifling conditions inside the house:
  1. A six pack of Alaskan Amber. My wife, who really can't stand beer, loves this stuff.
  2. Two bags of Tim's Cascade Chips: Original for the wife and kids and (yum) Jalepeño for me.

Next on the agenda (AC still doesn't work, so I'll defer to somebody more skilled), and more up my alley, will be the recovery of whatever rocks, dirt, and (hopefully) gold I can find on the old Western Digital Caviar 2340 hard drive I just pulled out of my long retired 486DX/100. It's sitting on my desk right now, staring at me, daring me, saying "plug me in, plug me in." Soon, my ten-year old piece of hardware, soon.

This has nothing to do with the competition going on to determine the King or Queen of Powerpoint. This has to do with Jakob Nielson's latest alertbox on the Department of Redundancy Department, especially as it pertains to multiple links on a web site. I think. Because he does reference feature-rich applications like Word and how they're overly complex.

So web sites, I think, should be simpler. Except when they shouldn't, because sometimes it's a good idea to have multiple ways to do the same thing. Except when it's a bad idea, which is what the article says.

I think.
