Here's the location of Smiley Library. The thing about Miss Ayres(sp?) was that she absolutely could not have a conversation with you without smiling the whole time. I'm pretty sure I went to the library just to see a grown-up that was always glad to see me. At least she always seemed glad to see me.

Of course I have a Miss Ayres story. After I landed back in Denver in 1980 I went to work in a bookstore in a shopping mall. This was the best job I have ever had. I like retail and retail customers. People buying books are usually in a good mood. Books smell great.

Just before I moved on to another job Miss Ayres dropped in to buy a book. We looked at each other a while and I can't remember who recognized who, first. I do remember Miss Ayres saying, "And you're still in books!" I get a little thrill writing about it just as I did that day. No Miss Ayres, I haven't let you down, I'm still readin' and learnin'.
