War on terror
Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld: "...in any long struggle or long war, where any kind of moral or intellectual confusion about who and what is right or wrong, can weaken the ability of free societies to persevere."
Keith Olbermann: "It demands the deep analysis and sober contemplation of every American."
Slate: "The fifth anniversary of 9/11 looms before us, and it's hard to say which artifact is gloomier: the awful memory of the attack itself (especially to those of us who witnessed the towers crumbling) or the spectacle of our leaders wrapping themselves in its legacy as if it were some tattered shroud that sanctifies their own catastrophic mistakes and demonizes all their critics."
Blogs for Bush thinks that the secretary was channeling Karl Rove."

Legal Marijuana?
Here's the skinny on the DEA working against SAFER's marijuana initiative, from Colorado Confidential. Tamarisk removal at John Martin reservoir
Lamar Daily News: "Tamarisk that has been crowding the river's edge at John Martin Reservoir for more than 30 years was removed last week, providing easy access for fishing and sightseeing below the dam and along the river.
"Tamarisk, which was introduced in the West decades ago, is now regarded as an invasive pest that crowds out native vegetation, drinks up precious water resources, and makes a less desirable habitat for animals. The weed had invaded both the spillway area and the river's edge at John Martin and was cleared by machinery last week. Visitors to the park can now walk on the open banks of the Arkansas below the John Martin Dam without obstruction from tamarisk. Fishing opportunities at the spillway and at the river's edge have also been greatly improved."

Green conservatives
Say hello to Republicans for Environmental Protection. From the website, "We are Republicans. We share a deep concern for the environment. We know that a healthy environment and a sound economy are both essential to our nation's prosperity. We believe that by working together, we can preserve both our environment and our economy for current and future generations of Americans."
Thanks to the Denver Post for their article about the group.
