Denver Charter Changes for the November 2003 Election

The timing isn't looking good for the group, Friends for Denver Municipal Service, to get their proposal on the November ballot, according to the Rocky Mountain News [July 30, 2003, "Crunch time for city pay plan"]. The group is trying to get a plan on the ballot as an alternative to the Charter changes that the Mayor and City Council are proposing. From the article, "They likely will have no more than five days to collect the more than 33,000 signatures needed to put the question to voters. Because that is a 'special election' for Denver, the group must collect the signatures of 10 percent of the registered voters in the city. As of Tuesday, Denver had 334,840 registered voters. The signatures have to be submitted by the close of business next Wednesday, which is 90 days before the election." Before the group can start collecting signatures a review by the City Attorney's office, City Council, and the Election Commission must be completed. The group is optimistic that the review can be completed by Friday leaving only 5 days to collect the signatures.

Don't forget to attend tonight's public hearing at the Webb Building at 5:30PM.
