Richard S. Lindzen: "So what, then, is one to make of this alleged debate? I would suggest at least three points. First, nonscientists generally do not want to bother with understanding the science. Claims of consensus relieve policy types, environmental advocates and politicians of any need to do so. Such claims also serve to intimidate the public and even scientists--especially those outside the area of climate dynamics. Secondly, given that the question of human attribution largely cannot be resolved, its use in promoting visions of disaster constitutes nothing so much as a bait-and-switch scam. That is an inauspicious beginning to what Mr. Gore claims is not a political issue but a 'moral' crusade. Lastly, there is a clear attempt to establish truth not by scientific methods but by perpetual repetition."

The summer monsoon season may be upon us, according to TheDenverChannel.com. From the article, "A blast of heavy rain washed out a few driveways and roads in eastern Colorado and triggered a mudslide in the mountains Sunday, signaling what could be the beginning of monsoon season, the National Weather Service said. Radar estimates suggested 5 inches of rain fell in parts of eastern Douglas County and western Elbert County south of Denver within about two hours Sunday afternoon, but actual reports were lower, according to the National Weather Service. A mudslide closed Red Mountain Pass on U.S. Highway 550 between Ouray and Silverton for an hour, said Mark Aultman of the state transportation department. The weather service reported slow moving thunderstorms in the area. Without heavy winds to push the thunderstorms along in eastern Colorado, 2.5 inches fell in less than two hours near Kiowa in Elbert County. North of Akron, almost 2 inches fell in a little over an hour, and south of Fleming in northeast Colorado, 1.1 inches fell within 45 minutes."
