The Cherry Creek News: "Vote center locations."

Sean Acqui: "A lot of other bloggers here have expounded on what it means to be a moderate, and on the evils of partisanship, and what's wrong with the current way of doing things.

"Me, I want to talk about the practicalities.

"I strongly believe in the ideal behind Unity08. If we can make moderates a force of their own -- just as conservatives and liberals have become forces within, but separate from, the two major parties -- we can achieve several interrelated objectives. Among them:

"Forcing elected officials to pay attention to moderates, rather than their partisan bases.

"Giving moderate Republicans and Democrats a base of support independent of their party. That will make them less beholden to their party, which should lead to fewer party-line votes and more thoughtful and independent political debate.

"Offering a lever for those moderates to recapture their parties and reestablish the long tradition of 'meet in the middle' that the last 15 years of partisanship have all but erased.

"Reasserting pragmatism over ideology, leading to legislation that thoughtfully addresses complex problems, instead of pursuing oversimplified or actively harmful agendas in order to conform to some predetermined principle."

The deal between Denver and Xcel energy, that Denver voters will vote on in the August 8th primary, is raising the hackles of some people on the rainy side of Colorado, according to the Summit Daily News. From the article, "A renewed agreement between Xcel Energy and Denver water sparked heated reaction Monday at a Colorado River Basin Roundtable meeting in Glenwood Springs. Under the agreement, which will be inked in early 2007 [if passed by Denver voters], Xcel would release part of the water it uses to run the Shoshone hydroelectric plant in Glenwood Canyon, enabling Denver to store more water from the Colorado River in upstream reservoirs, such as Wolford Mountain and Dillon...

"In 2003, as a response to a severe drought, Xcel agreed to relax its Shoshone call and let Denver use the freed water to fill its reservoirs on the West Slope. Two local men spoke out strongly against the agreement at Monday's roundtable meeting, saying it opens the door for Denver to take more water from the Western Slope. 'This matter makes me blue in the face,' said Chuck Ogilby, who represents Eagle County at the roundtable. 'Denver comes in with this deal kind of behind our backs. This is a blatant misuse of your power,' he said of Denver Water."

The Colorado Gubernatorial contest is getting nastier, according to the Denver Post. From the article, "Colorado's gubernatorial candidates have escalated their attacks on each other's positions in recent weeks - a prelude to a likely hostile campaign season this fall. Democrat Bill Ritter has called Republican Bob Beauprez 'hypocritical' on renewable energy, inconsistent on water policy and a flip-flopper on a proposed ballot initiative. Beauprez, in turn, has accused Ritter of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants and posting a 'fig leaf' statement supporting gun rights. At this critical moment, analysts say, the would-be governors are testing strategies, preparing for future fights, building a case against their opponent and delivering a dose of what voters will see in television ads this fall."
