The proposed bond issue for the fall ballot is still in flux. The task force making the recommendations is particularly interested in how a $75 million restoration of Boettcher Concert Hall will sell, according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article:

At the request of several City Council members, the committee agreed to add several projects to its original list.

Add-ons included new libraries for Stapleton and Green Valley, a recreation center for Stapleton and several new road projects.

TThe Denver City Council is expected to give the final OK to the proposal this summer. If voters approve the projects, the average homeowner would see taxes rise by $97 a year.

The liveliest discussion was over the symphony hall. Boettcher opened 28 years ago and has been hounded by complaints that it has terrible acoustics. The symphony proposes to gut the interior and start over, a project that would cost $100 million.

The symphony board has promised to raise at least $25 million in private funding for the new building, and another $25 million for the symphony endowment.

Benson said other Denver cultural facilities, such as the zoo, had matched city funding dollar for dollar with private fundraising. He questioned why the symphony couldn't do the same.
