Here's another perspective taken from my Sony Mavica. The camera can take little 15 second MPEG movies. I snapped this one (1.34 MB) on last week's Circle Line tour.

I have just returned from vacation to New York and Atlantic City. We stayed a week in midtown then shuttled over to the boardwalk for a couple of nights to see the Miss America pageant.

Anyway, I've got a lot of sobering pictures. Stacey and I were in Manhattan last year (8/2000). Over the course of time here, I will be posting images, many of which will compare a view of the skyline last year to this year.

Here's the first installment, which is very haunting. Both pictures are taken from a two hour Circle Line boat tour around the harbor. These pictures are taken from the Hudson on the west side of the island. The first one (174 KB) is from a beautiful sunny day (8/7/2000). The second picture (430 KB but worth it) was last week (9/20/2001) only nine days after the attack. The already cloudy evening turns dark from the haze from the smoldering pit. You can still smell the fires burning when this picture was taken. Imagine the air being filled with the smell of smoldering plastic. That's what this thing smells like when you get close to it.
