Dave Knows Soccer!
David Letterman had the U.S. soccer team on tonight. More specifically, he had Landon Donovan on to talk about the recent World Cup 2002 in Korea. Some of the other guys from the team (among whom were Mathis, Agoos, Sanneh, Reyna, Berhalter and McBride) on the roof to kick the ball into stuff. Reyna and Berhalter kicked the ball off the top through a couple of water towers. Mathis stepped up and punted the ball across Broadway hitting the skyscraper next door before it bounced down into the street. That's hilarious! Dave should bring back the gig where he throws fruit off the sides of buildings. I'm easy for a good laugh. So, more coverage means more attention to soccer in the US! Note: that link takes you to video clips from Late Night. However, you can't link direclty to the soccer ones. Dave and Paul also did a funny soccer skit at Wembley some time ago. Do check that one out!

Check out these roller skates from Sketchers. They are calling them "4 wheelers". Year, whatever. They are ROLLER SKATES! My wife just picked up a pair of these, only she got a better price. Here are the men's models.

So I went rollerblading again today. I've really enjoyed the change in pace from soccer. It's a good cross-training exercise that still keeps your legs in good shape. I've gotten much better with my endurance and confidence. Braking has always been a concern. So, I knew someone had to have invented a better brake. It seems Rollerblade has something now called "Active Brake Technology". Simply attach the mechanism to the back of the boot and it helps you use your heel brake more effectively.

But, I figured that there must be more. Indeed there is. The Skate FAQ has great tutorials on in-line skating. Yes, "in-line skating" is the more correct term. Rollerblading (due to that company's success) has sort of taken over the name, sort of like how people call sodas Coke or Klenex, well...Klenex :-) Anyhow, I learned that, while I had learned several good braking techniques, that I was not utilizing one of the easiest of them all, using the brake pad correctly. Here is a the link to their stopping techniques.
