Lewis strike gives U.S. first ever win over Ecuador
Awesome! This is the first time that the U.S. has beaten Ecuador in a soccer match. That sounds funny to a lot of people who don't follow the sport. Nonetheless, each country we can notch a victory against (even if it was just a friendly) is a big one. It gives our country more respect among other nations, albeit not much more. The match was chock full of fouls. Mathis was sent off in the 58th minute from a second yellow. That shows good poise that we didn't crack with only 10 men. Good stuff! I wish I could have seen that one. Here's a photo [courtesy of FIFA/Reuters] of Eddie Lewis going up for a header. Nice air!
