Well, we're planning on launching the beta of our product on Monday. Lots of testing (and probably fixing) to do between now and then. It's quite exciting, although I am trying to be a bit detached, because the reality is that it may take further feedback and development before we get the response we want.
We are launching something that we believe to be quite different from anything that has come before, although on the surface, the differences aren't obvious.
The most important difference is that we have a mathematical way of identifying those individuals who are best at predicting community opinion. As our CTO Bob Swerdlow says (I'd link to him but he doesn't have a blog!), they "have the magic."
Some services like Slashdot allow people to become moderators based on their proven ability. But the whole interface for how it's done in such services is rather geeky and complicated. We are aiming to bring that basic functionality to non-geeks by moving the complexity out of the user interface and into the back-end, in the form of math.
More about this will be said as time goes on... ;)

Radio Userland just froze on me. Wouldn't serve the main page locally. 'Course, it's running on a laptop and I've changed locations a couple of times while it's been running, between a DSL link at the office and a cable modem at home; that may be asking a lot of it! With trepidation, I killed it via Mac OS X's "Force Quit". I was afraid the database would be corrupted.
But, it wasn't. So that's good. But RUL needs to be more robust for laptop users.
