Content Ain't King
Andrew Odlyzko picks up a parallel theme to one I first saw in a fascinating article by Dan Bricklin: the money communications generates (especially for social contact) dwarfs that commanded by professionally produced content. Put it another way - people pay orders of magnitude more to stay in touch with their family and their friends than to read the paper, watch movies or listen to music.
Odlyzko has the numbers, going back to the invention of the telephone(!), but be warned, this is a long one again. (on First Monday via Bricklin)
And now for something completely different
