Globalisation must be for all
Living in Ecuador, this lecture, given yesterday by Amartya Sen, Noble prize winner and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, has particular resonance for me. To quote Lance Knobel:
Sen has an unequalled record as an advocate for the world's poor. "Globalisation is neither especially new nor, in general, a folly. Over thousands of years, globalisation has contributed to the progress of the world, through travel, trade, migration, spread of cultural influences and dissemination of knowledge and understanding. To have stopped globalisation would have done irreparable harm to the progress of humanity.
Also, good background on Sen and his thinking in this interview on Atlantic Monthly.
