Good's got nothin' to do with it

The criteria for winning an Oscar don't include artistic merit! Strong piece of writing:

"3. Play the disabled

Playing characters with disabilities is the only surefire way of reassuring the Academy voters -- an insecure bunch at the best of times -- that a performance has occurred, that acting is verifiably in the building."

A Terrabyte under your Desk

A terrabyte (that's 1000 GB to you. Rule of thumb - roughly equivalent to the information contained in the Library of Congress) data server to knock up a home, priced to fit. This looks very doable:

"No doubt, as a geek you have achieved a massive collection of data. Weeks worth of music on CDs, and months worth of movies on DVDs. IRC logs, photographs, high res artwork, diaries, a million freeware apps, games that take up a Gig of drive space, ad infinitum. Then there’s all your roommates stuff. These files are usually spread out across your computers. Eventually you begin to make compromises; uninstalling and reinstalling games each time you play them, Deleting those mp3’s from your CDs that you don’t like anymore. Wouldn’t it be nice have a massive jukebox of music, a library of movies, and an arcade of games all on one little box?"  (Via BoingBoing)
