Producing and consuming health information

Pour ne pas oublier d'y aller voir plus loin...

The past few days, I was in Philadelphia to present a paper at the annual meetings of the American Public Health Association conference. The title of of my paper was, "Valuing lives, commodifying health."

One conference highlight was a special session on urban health inequalities; another was a special session on how private commerce and the built environment in North America facilitate overeating and physical inactivity, with particular regard for the childhood obesity epidemic, and what various people have been doing to combat these issues. And I was thrilled to find a double session, Using history to explore the public in public health, replete with explicit epistemological questions. [Melanie Rock]

Virtual reality, and in reality... Gamers may soon find that they can score McDonald's simulacra. "Shakes, fries, and pimply-faced employees are irrevocably etched on to every CD of The Sims Online," according to a critical review, originally published by Shift and reprised by AlterNet, which urges consumers to take (virtual) action.

"Actually order and consume virtual McD's food, then use The Sims Online's 'expressive gestures' [feature] in creative ways. Lie down and play dead. Emote the vomiting, sickness, or fatigue that might overcome you after eating a real life McNugget," is one suggestion, provided for would-be rebels to follow. [Melanie Rock]

Tiens, si vous voulez suivre vous aussi ce carnet, j'ai tricoté un fil RSS...
