These excerpts from an email conversation a few years back between Dave Winer and Bill Joy made of think of a few things:
-- Dave's emails remind me of email I've received from Philip Greenspun; terse bordering on rude, self-confident bordering on arrogant.
-- Joy's responses sound like the zen koan-based ravings of someone with a gigantic intellect who is somewhat out of touch with reality.

I should be taking a great deal of pleasure from the fact that IBM's products site is not responding right now, especially considering their insulting television ads which imply that only IBM is capapble of doing ecommerce. Unfortunately, I need to do some product research so it's an extreme annoyance.

Great, IU is talking about raising parking fines even higher. Dicks.

Our idiotic warmasters are helping to guarantee poor treatment for future American POWs, as well as continuing our rampant violations of international law.

Jim's Monday Sports Talk:
- It's official: Prost goes into receivership, so we won't be seeing them in the 2002 F1 season. At least this frees up Heinz-Harald Frentzen to race for Arrows... although I worry about Jos Verstappen now.
- What can you say about how IU kicked the jeebus out of Illinois? Magnificent.
- I still cannot believe that the goddamned Patriots beat the Steelers. Pittsburgh came out like they didn't even expect to have to play, and got what they deserved, but I'm still peeved. At least Drew Bledsoe got to step up, after having gotten screwed all season.
- I'd say that the Rams are going to completely prison-date the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but after watching the games this weekend, I think it'd be a big mistake to underestimate them. If the Rams come out and play their game and don't take anything for granted, it should be a shoo-in. I don't really like the Rams (can't stand Kurt Warner) but I like Marshall Faulk and want to see the team that beat the Steelers get crushed.
- Ryan's beloved Chargers may get a Schottenheimer in the arm. I like Marty, but the Chargers still blow. Go Broncos.
- Who knew? Vernon Forrest totally overwhelmed Sugar Shane Mosley Saturday night in NYC. It was much like Forrest predicted (and, apparently, like their amateur bout); I guess Vernon's style and determination to not be intimidated were just the tools to take Shane apart. I've never seen him like that. Gotta give Shane credit, though; when he was taking a complete shellacking, he stayed in there and went out on his shield. Two class acts in a great, exciting, clean fight... exactly what boxing needed right now. The Gatti fight was fun as always too, watching him take lots of hard shots and deliver even harder ones.

I'm glad to see us offering more money and support for Indonesia; I don't think we caused quite enough human rights violations when Kissinger encouraged their invasion of East Timor.
