Ken's working on yet another badass .NET project:
"ASP.NET is very interesting, but its reliance on IIS limits its usefulness. NetServ is a HTTP web server for .NET i'm working on that allows ASP.NET applications to be executed without Microsoft IIS. NetServ is built on top of Imtiaz Alam's excellent MyWebServer, using ideas from Scott Guthrie."
This is, of course, exceedingly cool, and another sign both of Ken's prowess and the power of the .NET platform. However, I have to take umbrage with the statement that "...IIS limits its usefulness." Is this because of the security problems Microsoft's had?
I'll go out on a limb and say that a properly-patched IIS system is equal to any other web server out there. Every major security problem in IIS that's taken place has exploited holes that Microsoft had advertised patches for months previous. I also have to say that I like using a web server that doesn't require me to learn yet another set of configuration languages to dork around in many different text files to set up. But that's just my opinion :)
