Firefox-based Social Browser Flock Launches. [Slashdot] The could be a large part of an entirely new breed of rich client eLearning systems. This one is quite different from MIT PiggyBank but neigher fork the Firefox codebase. The evolving model seems to be specialized client functionality in the Firefox browser coupled with AJAX like web services that provide various kinds of server power applications and services inside what appears to the user to be a seamless interface. The is reminicent of the Lotus Notes model but in the modern era where web services can be robustly distributed and redundant. There would seem to be real potential for meaningful personalization built around the Firefox browser window to the internet. -- BL
