Running through my online sources of Broadband Wireless intelligence this morning, I learned that Aerie Networks has reactivated the Ricochet network in the Denver, Colorado area. I plan to be in the Denver area next month and hope to visit Aerie and perhaps bring my Ricochet modems and use them with a temporary account. Further analysis of this development in Focus.  Aerie Press Release (pdf file) (Thanks for the tip to Kurt Mackie of Broadband Wireless Online, linked at left.)

Additional License-exempt Spectrum Proposed In House Of Representatives
HR4641 would require that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) "shall, not later than January 1, 2003, prepare, make publicly available, and submit to the President, the Congress, and the FCC a report that ... designates a 20 MHz band of contiguous frequencies located below 2 GHz, and a band of between 3 and 500 MHz of contiguous frequencies above 2 GHz and below 6 GHz, for reallocation to the public for unlicensed use".

Mr. Stroh Went To Washington
As I write this, it was a week ago, almost to the hour, that I was in Washington, DC on a the last panel session of the FCC's Spectrum Policy Task Force. It was a very interesting, enlightening experience. The primary thrust of my comments was that most spectrum could be converted to license-exempt operation when the capabilities of a new generation of "smart radios" are factored in (considerably advanced than the devices currently used for license-exempt operation.) The full details of my experience, what I heard, my impressions, and my projections for what comes next will be in Focus.

Weblog note:
In the giddiness of getting this welog launched, I've somewhat neglected what is supposed to be my prime channel of communication about Broadband Wireless Internet Access  - my newsletter Focus On Broadband Wireless Internet Access. You'll probably note that entries in the BWIA weblog will (have) become less frequent and more terse. That's a direct result of spending more time editing Focus for the benefit of the paying subscribers, and less time posting information for casual readers of the BWIA Weblog. If you'd like to get much more in-depth information about subjects discussed in the BWIA Weblog, please consider subscribing to Focus.

Comments are always welcome!
