At The DCC
This weekend I'm attending the Amateur Radio Digital Communications
Conference in Denver, Colorado. The DCC is jointly sponsored by the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL) and Tucson Amateur Packet Radio (TAPR); I'm a
Director of the latter.
The DCC is the closest thing that the Amateur Radio industry (vendors) and
hobby (users) has to a Research and Development conference. Formal papers
are presented on both theoretical (we ought to do this) and practical (I've
done this - isn't it cool?) topics. On another level, it's a gathering of
technically minded Amateur Radio Operators interested in digital wireless
communications from all over the US, and also internationally.
It's a fascinating conference, because Amateur Radio spectrum is often a
perfect "radio playground" for experimentation with new modes. More
information is available at http://www.tapr.org/dcc.
