Visiting the Ukrainian Embassy in Sofia Bulgaria

A quick note on location, expenses, etc.

  • Address: Ovcha Kupel, ul. Borianna, no. 29
  • Address in Bulgarian: София, жк ’’Овча купел’’, ул. Боряна №29;
  • Tel: 955 94 78; Fax: 955 52 47
  • I brought prints of a pdf I downloaded and filled out. Once I arrived, they asked me to fill out an almost-identical form. Don't waste your time. Also, the form they provide asks for 2 photographs, whereas the visa available from the NYC Ukrainian consulate doesn't. Don't panic if you just brought one photograph - only one is required.
  • I paid $75 for a single-entry business visa. I received it in three hours. Wow.
  • To pay this fee, I had to walk about 600 meters to the nearby bank and deposit the monies, and return later with the receipt to collect my passport. A pain in the ass, but did I say they took only three hours to give me my visa???
  • I probably did not need the letter of invitation nor did I need to wear my suit. But they treated me *very* nicely.
  • Taxi fare:
    • Visit 1 - Centrum -> Ovcha Kupel: 5 leva
    • Visit 1 - Ovcha Kupel -> Centrum: 10 leva
    • Visit 2 - Centrum -> Ovcha Kupel round trip, driver waited 3 minutes while I picked up my visa : 16 leva
    • In my trip to pick up my completed visa (Visit 2), I asked the driver the following: "Shteh vi pomolya da meh ischakateh took idameh vurneteh obratno" - "I would like you to wait here for me and take me back." And of course I said "Molya" ("Please").
