Has anyone else noticed the great change of architecture in MS Petshop? All of a sudden it looks a whole lot more like a typical MVC style app and a lot less like the nonesense that Vertigo developed when .NET was first released. I'm still sitting on the fence when it comes to datasets, because in my heart of hearts I believe that using your own business objects is preferable. That said, I use DS's every day . Perhaps I can switch to a domain object structure when Frans is finished with LLBL Gen Pro. Right now I don't have the time or energy to spend on this pet peeve of mine.
As a side note, it did strike me tremendously funny that guys like Keith Pleas would hold an Architecture Summit at MS. Its a bit of a lost cause since so many of the millions of VB coders in corporate America would much rather live off off the junk food diet provided by MS.
On the whole I suppose its a good thing that someone is having Architecture Summits and that someone at MS was embarrased enough about all the comments made by some folks who wrote Petshop 2 that "it is using lightweight objects " - someone got needled enough by the countless critiques of the lacking OO architecture in the first couple of Petshops that they did a pretty good job in redesigning it. The app went from just 10 classes in a couple of projects to over 60 classes in how many 5 different projects? Nice.
