Ottawa workers launch picket line; CBC says it just took a feed
Locked-out
workers in Ottawa rushed to establish a picket line on Parliament Hill
this afternoon, after a CBC manager broadcast Question Period
on Newsworld and RDI. The Canadian Media Guild, which
represents 5,500 locked-out CBC workers, said it was told that that
CBC
managers would not attempt to do broadcast work on the Hill. Thus, the
CMG held an information picket line, and allowed the Prime Minister,
Cabinet Ministers, the Governor-General, and others to cross
"unimpeded." But the CMG says a CBC manager went to
the CBC control room on Parliament Hill to set up a feed of the House
of Commons Question period to broadcast on Newsworld and RDI via the
Ottawa Broadcast Centre. The CMG then advised
officials on Parliament Hill that they were establishing a picket line
on the Hill. CBC spokesperson Jason MacDonald told
CBCunplugged that "the feed we used is a feed provided by the House of
Commons and a public service to any broadcaster that wants to use it.
This is not scab work; [this is not using] replacement workers. If
Rogers decided to use it, they're welcome to use it." The CMG says it will put the "hard" picket line back up tomorrow morning.

Very exciting. I saw Jowi on the line in the rain today and he told me the news. He was happy. Natasha and Paolo must be very excited. Congratulations. Now let us back in the door!
