The Globe and Mail: Breaking News: "But referee Stacey Livingston of Utica, N.Y., kept blowing her whistle. Another three penalties made it seven in a row against Canada. Livingston was on the brink of spoiling the game. She was calling way too many penalties.."

CBC Sports Online : 2002 Winter Olympics, Salt Lake City, Utah : canada_usa_gold020221 The underdogs bit back. After losing eight straight games to their bitter rivals, Canada's women's hockey team came up big when it counted. The Canadians beat the United States 3-2 Thursday to capture the Olympic gold medal and avenge their loss to the Americans four years ago in Nagano.

Very exciting game. Particularly satisfying since the officiating was so bad and we spent so much time in the penalty box. Sweet!

Thestar.com/Bring on Belarus, as Canada dumps Finns: " Team Canada 2002, a team organized by Wayne Gretzky that has taken the country through a broad spectrum of emotions and wild controversy since landing in Utah last week, moved to within one win of the gold medal match at the Salt Lake Games with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Finland last night."

Guardian Unlimited Sport | Olympics | Stapleford threatens legal action" Curling has been the surprise hit of these games. About 42% of Olympic television coverage has been devoted to curling. That interest has been mirrored on the web where curling moved ahead of Anna Kournikova on Yahoo's index listing the most searched athletes and sports topics on the internet."
What?! They haven't heard of Catriona?!! This is funny because I just went to google to search for curling (for this link) and the graphic was of that very sport. Bizarre.

CBC News: Ontario premier files $15 million libel suit: " The outgoing premier of Ontario is suing The Globe and Mail for libel, claiming the newspaper falsely said he ordered police to move against a group of native protesters in 1995. "
Ooh la la. Many people suspect a connection but I'm surprised the Globe made that bold a claim.

CBC Sports Online : 2002 Winter Olympics, Salt Lake City, Utah : teamcanada020221Whew. They outshot, outchanced and outplayed the Finns, but Team Canada had to bear down and battle to the very last second to ensure a shot at the gold medal.
Whew, I guess!
