Thestar.com/Canada sends jets in terror scare: "The rules of engagement for Canada have changed drastically under NORAD since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. On such escort missions, the Canadian fighter jets can be ordered to fire their missiles to shoot down a passenger jet if a terrorist threat is confirmed.
Scott Johnson of NORAD command in Colorado Springs, Colo., said last night more than 270 such missions have been flown by U.S. fighter jets since Sept. 11, but yesterday's scramble was believed to be the first involving Canadian fighters." Jesus. No wonder rail traffic is up. Who wants to look out their window on a flight, see a couple fighter jets and wonder if they're going to be taken out.
