The Seattle Times: Editorials & Opinion: Lumbering toward solutions to U.S.-Canada softwood spat: "Our import of softwood lumber from Canada represents the largest single traded product with our largest trading partner. The environmental implications of this trade are staggering. About 90 percent of all lumber imported from Canada is cut from primary or "old growth" forests. Our housing market is fueling the liquidation of Canada's ancient forests, some of the last large tracts of such forest in the world and the last bastions of habitat for vulnerable species like grizzly bears, bull trout and mountain caribou. "

U.S. levies duties on Canadian softwood lumber
All Canadian softwood lumber heading to the United States faces duties
of at least 19 per cent. In some cases, producers will pay up to 35 per
cent in tariffs and charges. The new duties will be imposed on May 8.

Massive no-fly zone ordered over Kananaskis, Alta., for June G8 summit: "Canadian military officials say the restricted airspace -- which runs from southeastern B.C. to the Calgary city limits -- will be patrolled by CF-18s prepared to shoot down unauthorized aircraft.
" Calgary International Airport is within the no-fly zone. But they're not closing it down. I don't think I'd want to be flying into or out of Calgary during the summit. Coincidently I was due to fly out of Calgary on 11 Sept.
