The Globe and Mail: Two killed in floods 'Two people were killed by floodwaters Tuesday following a potent storm that swamped basements, swept away bridges and washed out hundreds of roads throughout Atlantic Canada.'

The Globe and Mail: Canadian SARS death toll reaches six 'Ontario health officials reported two more deaths related to severe acute respiratory syndrome, bringing the number of people killed by the disease to six in Canada. All of those deaths have been in Ontario.'

There is a very real concern that we'll be be short of health care staff soon. Nurses and doctors are in particular danger. Entrance to all hospitals in the province is restricted. Elective surgeries have been cancelled. Of course there was a backlog already.

CBC News: Stephen Lewis asks Ottawa for more money to fight AIDS 'Lewis told committee members that he expects historians to one day write with accusation and incredulity about how today's leaders are not doing more to stop the spread of AIDS. "It is astonishing that people are talking about 100 million deaths and there is no pronounced western voice," said Lewis. Lewis said Canada can rally western nations to take more of an interest in what's happening to millions of Africans.'

The Globe and Mail: Letter to America 'If you proceed much further down the slippery slope, people around the world will stop admiring the good things about you. They'll decide that your city upon the hill is a slum and your democracy is a sham, and therefore you have no business trying to impose your sullied vision on them.
