Music organizer a perpetual party

Nicholas Goldschmidt made the surprising and the near-impossible look so easy for so long that it seemed as though he might go on doing it forever. But every festival, no matter how successful, must come to an end, and so Goldschmidt's incredible, festive life closed with the final surprise that he was mortal like everyone else.
Niki, as he was called by everyone who knew him longer than 10 minutes, died in Toronto on Sunday night, just three months after the last of his almost innumerable music festivals. He was 95. This quote is funny because last night mom told me her reaction to Goldschmidt's death was 'What? He can't die!' We saw him at a COC performance this fall and he was the life force he is always described as being.
