CBC budget boost still unclear < 11:41:42 PM>.

From finance ministry documents of the 2005 Budget tabled today in the House of Commons:

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation plays a unique and essential role in highlighting Canadian stories and showcasing Canadian talent on radio and television. Budget 2005 provides $60 million in 2005–06 to help ensure that Canada’s stories, reflecting the ever-increasing diversity of Canadian society, find their way into Canadian homes in the form of high-quality programming.

However, it was unclear whether this renewal of funding received in 2004 also was now a permanent commitment, as the CBC had been hoping.
It is also not immediately clear whether the CBC has been turned down in its request for up to $83 million annually to revive regional broadcasting it cut in 2000. News reports had suggested government support for the submission announced by CBC president Robert Rabinovitch in February.
