Ipperwash Barrel Suckers < 8:33:44 AM>.

Here in Ontario the Ipperwash inquiry into the police shooting death of Anthony George continues, moving slowly towards the critical moment when former Premier Mike Harris, the man in charge at the time, testifies about how it was he sees it. Mr. George, according to the news reports, was the first aboriginal protester killed by Canadian police in a century.

The inquiry has just heard tapes made of conversations among police officers hours before the shooting. In them, the then Conservative government are described, according to the CBC news report, as “gun-loving rednecks who couldn’t care less about aboriginals.” The CBC quotes one police officer as saying:

They just are in love with guns. There’s no question. They don’t give a shit less about Indians.

The Globe and Mail, less worried about the kiddies, perhaps, gives a fuller quote, which contains the ‘f’ word and also introduces a term I’d never heard before, a term that perfectly describes a certain kind of insecure person:

They are fuckin’ barrel suckers, they are just in love with guns … they couldn’t give a shit less about Indians.

“Barrel suckers”: that just about says it all — homoeroticism, infantile oral fixation, impotence… These are the gun lovers. How the cops must despise them.
