| NYT Endorses Kerry for President: |
|
"There is no denying that this race is mainly about Mr. Bush's disastrous tenure. Nearly four years ago, after the Supreme Court awarded him the presidency, Mr. Bush came into office amid popular expectation that he would acknowledge his lack of a mandate by sticking close to the center. Instead, he turned the government over to the radical right."
"We look back on the past four years with hearts nearly breaking, both for the lives unnecessarily lost and for the opportunities so casually wasted. Time and again, history invited George W. Bush to play a heroic role, and time and again he chose the wrong course. We believe that with John Kerry as president, the nation will do better." -- New York Times 17 Oct, 2004

| Reckless Administration May Reap Disastrous Consequences: |
'This nation is about to embark upon the first test of a revolutionary doctrine applied in an extraordinary way at an unfortunate time. The doctrine of preemption -- the idea that the United States or any other nation can legitimately attack a nation that is not imminently threatening but may be threatening in the future -- is a radical new twist on the traditional idea of self defense. It appears to be in contravention of international law and the UN Charter. And it is being tested at a time of world-wide terrorism, making many countries around the globe wonder if they will soon be on our -- or some other nation's -- hit list.' -U.S. Senator Robert Byrd, Feb. 12, 2003

| On the road to losing the peace : |
'It was bad enough for the U.S. to have endured the intelligence failures that led to Sept. 11; it's another thing to know that 18 months, billions of dollars and untold numbers of bombs later that Osama bin Laden and most of his top advisers remain on the loose. This failure ought to be thrown daily in Mr. Bush's face, but he has diverted attention to Iraq, where the United States is about to make a mistake of historic proportions.' -Jeffrey Simpson in The Globe and Mail, 18 Feb 2003

World Leaders Come to Terms with Bush Win < 8:44:58 PM>. .
LONDON (Reuters) - A divided world came to terms on Wednesday with the prospect of four more years of President Bush, with friends hailing his re-election and critics vowing to make the best of it, especially in Iraq.

How's that for a ringing endorsement?
Sickening Feeling < 12:46:22 PM>. .
Watching the results from the U.S. election last night, I got more and more depressed as the evening wore on. While the final tally still isn't in, it doesn't look good for Kerry. God help us all.

Iraqis Turn Blind Eye to U.S. Vote Amid New Violence < 10:51:04 AM>. .

Looks like middle USA has beaten the rest of the world < 10:47:01 AM>. .
Sad? Wondering about your own echo chamber? I am. I was 90% certain that Bush wouldn't win, that it wouldn't be as close as the polls predicted.
Listening on the internet, reading my usual sites, I figured that Kerry would pull it off.
Now, I'm realising that I've been reading people like me.
Perhaps, most people are like me, that is, most of the rest of the world. We seemed to want Kerry over Bush. Yet, the middle, the heart of America decided to stick with it's war President, it's Christian, god fearing lunatic.

Depressing < 8:47:10 AM>. .
I must admit that the results we are seeing do look totally unbelivable from this side of the Atlantic. Akma: If the Democratic Party can't win in a year when the incumbent
President is administering an unpopular, unsuccessful foreign war, when
a blockbuster semi-documentary made millions of dollars exposing that
President's short-comings, when the economy is uncertain, when the Red
Sox won the World Series -- under what circumstances can it win?
Yet, look at these numbers: apparently a significant majority of US citizen are happy with this administration, more than in year 2000.
Maybe this is amazing because of the reality distortion field in which
we live in the blogosphere. Suddenly we realize that most of the voices
we hear are actually coming from a minority while a silent
majority is choosing again a world leader who has already started cruel
wars based only on lies, a majority totally unaware of what's going on
in the rest of the world and and scared to death.
It's very, very depressing.
