5D

Well, the new Step 5 class didn't get off to a very good start tonight. Only Hiroichi came, but we had a good talk about a variety of topics. Next week we will start a Unit 7.

I was surprised that people had so much trouble with coming up with Japanese customs and the reason why they are done. When I gave several examples the common response was, "Oh yeah, that's right. We do, do that!"

The homework for next week is p. 70 number 1 and 2.

Only Hiroko again this week! I guess both Mitsue and Makiko were too tired from their trip to Morocco. I got a postcard from Makiko and she said she was having a good time. I am not sure why Sae couldn't make it, but she said two weeks ago that she got a new computer, so she may be busy learning how to use it. Saeko is a nurse so her schedule changes a lot. She did a make up class last week and may do another one this week, too.

Next week we will start Unit 9. There is no homework.

People's poems were very nice and I hope that you will e-mail them to me so that I can share them with other students who visit the site. In some ways you were limited in the poems because I asked you to use the vocabulary from the lesson. Even with that limitation you came up with some good ideas.

Remember to select one of the two options for the essay and to check on the origins of Japanese Labor Thanksgiving Day.
