5D

Last week Hiroichi was here and this week Kenji. This has given me a excellent opportunity to learn a lot about each of them. I guess next week Takumi will need to show up and then I will have had a chance to talk to everyone one on one. The students in this class have very diverse backgrounds and interests so it should make for some lively discussions; if everyone comes the same day.

Next week I plan to start Unit 7 in the textbook.

I hope everyone got home alright. The snow was wet and heavy, so driving was really a bear. It took me much longer to drive home and a couple times I thought I was going to get stuck. On the way to JOY yesterday I saw four cars in the ditch and one accident. I guess that is normal for the first snow of the year.

Ayami is going to join this class from next week, so we will be back up to ten people. Kaori and Yukari came and helped decorate Bucky Hall for Christmas last night. It looks really nice. Yumiko (3A) strung popcorn to use as garland and people were surprised. Using popcorn and cranberries were traditional Christmas tree decorations in America. My mother said she was working with a group this year to make Christmas trees for birds. They will decorate a tree outside with things that birds can eat.

Remember to write about something surprising that has happened to your or someone you know. Try to use at least 5 past tense verbs.

Makiko and Mitsue were back today, so Hiroko didn't have to carry the load alone. They had a great time on their trip to Morocco, but they both came back with colds.

We talked about some amazing things today. There a lot of things that you see on the net that you have to wonder if they are true or not. A good place to check is snopes.com. They have all kinds of information about strange things.

Some very nice essays today. People wrote about family members, co-workers and books that were very important to them. I will look over some of them and give them back to you next week. If you send them to me by e-mail I can get them back to you more quickly.

We started the unit on crime and violence in schools. It is longer segment and has many different speakers, so it probably the most difficult one we have had so far. For homework I asked you to find information about this problem in Japan. I found several sites, but this one looked like it might have best information on ways to stop school violence.
